Each month we try to put on a parent program to accompany our PTA General meeting. Each month showcases a different grade level and a different theme.
It is for these programs that we are in need of some help. We currently have several parents that are in need of a sign language interpreter to allow them to fully understand and enjoy the program that their child is participating in.
The school district supplies money to get these interpreters for parent conferences but does not fund this work for student programs such as the ones we produce monthly. Without and interpreter some of these parents are left at a disadvantage and cannot enjoy the work of their children.
We would like to try and find a volunteer that is capable of interpreting our programs for those that are hearing impaired. This is not a monthly need as the parents that need the assistance do not have children in every grade level. If you would like more information please contact me any time. |

Music Teachers Shuffle Positions As many of you may have already heard, our traveling music teacher, Ms. Waggoner has received a new assignment and will be teaching at a different school for the remainder of the school year. This decision was made by the Human Resources department based on campus enrollment number. Starting Monday, September 29th, we will have a new music teacher on campus. Mr. Brion Briones, is a music teacher who previously worked at Widen and Blazier Elementary schools. This is his second year in teaching as well as his second year in the district.
Welcome Back To School Welcome back to another exciting year at Kocurek Elementary School. We have a lot of very fun and educational plans for this year’s music classes. Students at Kocurek will attend music classes with one of our two music teachers. Mr. VandeWalle and Mrs. Waggoner are both returning for their second year on campus. Mrs. Waggoner has been a valued teacher on our Essential Areas Team since she joined us last year. She is currently splitting her teaching time between Kocurek and Menchaca Elementary Schools. She is an experienced teacher and brings an intense love of teaching to our campus. We are truly blessed that she is returning to our campus. Mr. VandeWalle came to Kocurek Elementary school last year from his previous position at Widen Elementary. This will be his 10th year in the school district. The year is just beginning and it is already looking to be the best ever. From music, art and P.E. to each individual classroom, the excitement of the school year has spread through the halls. We are looking forward to working with each student and every parent. If at any time you have any questions you can feel free to contact Mrs. Waggoner or Mr. VandeWalle anytime.
Music Website Changes Well, I have had some time to make some updates and changes to the site. The biggest change is the “Photo Albums” area. Now you can get to these pages two ways (1) you can click on the Photo Albums link on the navigation menu to the left or you can go directly there by using the internet address www.photos.mrvansclass.com. The main change to these pages are all organizational and cosmetic. Let me know what you think. There are more changes to come as we continue through summer.
Music Memory Competition Results Today was an exciting day as the Kocurek Music Memory teams participated in the AISD Music Memory Competition. The results are in and I have to say I am quite impressed with out team as they did a FANTASTIC job today! Our 3rd/4th grade Team received 3 first place rankings, 1 second place ranking and 2 third place rankings. Our 5th grade team received 3 first place rankings, 1 second place ranking and 1 third place ranking. Two members of our 5th grade team also received the Malcolm Gregory Award. This award is given to students who achieve a perfect score in the competition. Congrats to both teams. You should all be very proud of your hard work...I know I am! |
