Saxophone Club
About Saxophone Club

Mr. VandeWalle started playing the saxophone more than 30 years ago.  Through middle school, high school, and college it was his passion and the object of many hours of his study.  He still performs regularly to this day with a couple big bands (jazz) in the area.  The saxophone has many of the same characteristics as the recorders used in class with the exception that they use a reed on the mouthpiece.  So why not teach students to play the saxophone?  Well, mainly, the cost.  Instead of full sized saxophones, which can be a bit expensive, we use jSax instruments from Nuvo Musical Instruments.

The Nuvo jSax

Saxophone club is usually held in the Spring Semester and open to 5th grade students at Kocurek. While the jSax is MUCH more affordable than a saxophone they are still fairly expensive.  This means there is a limited number of spots each year for this club.  Students are selected based on their interest in the subject, ability demonstrated on the recorder in class, and their ability to display mature and

responsible decision making.  Saxophone club is  held in the Spring Semester and open to 5th grade students at Kocurek.
